Privacy Policy

SmartPathGuides has no accounts, sign-ins, comment fields or newsletter. It does measure how its pages are used, with the two analytics services described below. This page explains what they collect and how to opt out.

What is collected

The site uses Cloudflare Web Analytics, which counts page views, referrers and rough visit numbers without setting cookies. Cloudflare's analytics documentation describes the method in full.

The site also uses Google Analytics, a service from Google LLC. It sets two first-party cookies, _ga and _ga_ followed by an ID, that hold a random identifier and last up to two years, so it can tell a returning visitor from a new one and group page views into visits. It records which pages are viewed and how they are used (scrolling to the end of a page, following a link to another site, downloading a file, starting or submitting a calculator's form), the site that referred you, your device type and browser, and an approximate location (country, region and city) that Google derives from your IP address. Google states that Google Analytics does not log or store IP addresses. The site keeps this data in Google Analytics for 14 months.

Google signals, ads personalization and Google's optional data-sharing settings are turned off for this site, so this data is not linked to Google accounts and is not used for advertising. Like every website, the server that delivers these pages (Cloudflare) keeps standard request logs (IP address, timestamp, the page requested and your browser's user-agent string) for security and to keep the site running. These logs are not used to identify individual visitors and are not combined with anything else.

Opting out

You can block or delete the Google Analytics cookies in your browser's settings, or install Google's Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on, which stops Google Analytics from recording your visits on any site. The site works the same either way.

What is not collected

• No advertising cookies; the site shows no ads.
• No names, email addresses or other personal details, unless you choose to email us (see below).
• No accounts, logins, comment fields or newsletter sign-ups.
• No selling of visitor data, and no sharing of it for advertising.

If you email us

When you email the address on the contact page, we receive your email address and whatever you put in the message, and we use them only to reply and, where relevant, to correct a number on the site. We do not add you to any list.

Links to other sites

Pages link out to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, state licensing boards and other public sources. Once you follow a link you are on that site, and its privacy practices apply, not this site's.

Advertising

This site currently shows no advertising and uses no advertising cookies. If that changes, this section will be updated before any ads appear, to name the advertising partner and describe the cookies it uses and how to opt out.

Children

This is a general-audience site about careers and is not directed at children under 13, and it knowingly collects nothing from them.

Changes and contact

If this policy changes, the "last updated" date above changes with it. Questions about privacy go to the address on the contact page.
